“Craig Johnson and I first worked together in 1993. He was a brand-new Wise County Deputy, and I was the Texas Ranger assigned to Wise, Jack and Montague Counties. Twenty-three years later I was elected Sheriff. I needed a Chief Deputy, someone who could be the next Sheriff, someone who could step in and seamlessly provide continuity of office in the event I was not able to complete the current term. Therefore, I asked Craig to be my Chief Deputy. After a weekend of prayer and consideration, he agreed to take the position.

The photo below was taken just a few months after Craig became the Chief Deputy. In this specific situation, we were in a standoff with a barricaded subject who was a threat to other citizens. After several hours of negotiation and planning, the impasse ended with an arrest and without any injuries. We’ve worked many difficult cases and scenes since that day. He never complained, faltered or failed to get the job done.

Being a Texas Ranger did not prepare me to be a Texas Sheriff, but being a Chief Deputy does prepare Craig Johnson to be the next Wise County Sheriff. I humbly ask our Wise County voters to vote for Chief Deputy Johnson and WCSO continuity of Office.” - Lane Akin, Sheriff, Wise County

Serving with Distinction for 25 Years

I believe in the work we have done in the last six years making Wise County a better place to live and raise a family. Sheriff Akin’s support, mentorship, and friendship have been priceless as we worked together for the greater good of the community. It is my goal to continue building upon the foundation we have established with professionalism and integrity. Together with the amazing women and men who work tirelessly to fulfill the mission of the Wise County Sheriff’s Office, we will accomplish these goals.

As sheriff, I will lead by example, walking beneath the banner of public trust, on a foundation of integrity to continue to present the citizens we serve with a sheriff’s office of unmatched service and unwavering protection.

Craig is honorable, trustworthy, a proven leader, and one you can always count on to do what’s right.

As a Republican, I have lived my life true to the conservative values of the Republican Party.  However, as Sheriff, I will serve and protect all citizens, regardless of political stance.  At the heart of my service is the fact that I value life, all life and will give mine to protect others and uphold the law of the land.  I am running on the Republican Party platform and will honor that platform as well as the beliefs of those I serve.  - Craig Johnson
